About Peer Support Group

Black peer support refers to a type of mental health support where Black individuals who have experienced similar challenges, such as mental health issues, discrimination, or trauma, connect and provide emotional and practical support to one another.

Peer support groups are provided through OBMHC member organizations across the city. Peer support can be provided in groups or one-on-one. These groups are often facilitated by Black peer support specialists or trainers, who may also be individuals with lived experiences.

Peer support can be an important part of healing and maintaining mental wellbeing. Residents in Ottawa can access peer support in person or virtually, through several OBMHC partner organizations.

Participants can join a group that supports individuals with specific concerns and experiences. Learn more about peer support and how your organization can host peer support groups or connect with one of our peer support service partners.
